This is a free crochet pattern to make a Large Crochet Project Bag called “Purple Passion Project Purse”. This pattern used to be part of a Crochet Along and uses one large Caron Cake.

Yet again, the bag slipped off her arm as the bus bounced over a rut in the road. Yarn and project spilled out onto the floor in a tangled mess.

“Shoot,” she muttered angrily under her breath.

A kindly grandmother sitting across from her witnessed the predicament. “Oh, no. That is most unfortunate.”

She forced a smile and said politely to the old lady, “Yes, but it’s okay. It happens a lot so I’m used to it.”

The old lady tisked at the mess. “That’s surely no way to live. Might I make a suggestion, dear?”

She looked up and narrowed her eyes at the old lady unsure of what she should expect. “I suppose…”

“Make yourself a project bag – one with a wide handle. You’ll find it doesn’t slip off your arm so easily in the future. Ah, here’s my stop.” The old lady gingerly gathered her belongings and shuffled off the bus without another glance back.

Use the Crochet Bag

Do you need a project bag? This pattern will give you just that! In fact, you can use this amazing unique crochet bag also for a wheelchair or for a stroller. Many crocheters have reached out to me and mentioned that it’s the perfect bag for them.

The versatility of the bag is due to the handle and buttons. You’ll be able to detach one side of the handle easily by releasing it from the buttons. That allows you to attach the bag to an object such as a stroller or wheelchair.

But of course, having a very wide bag handle, you can easily transport your crochet project on your arm while on the go or sitting on a park bench, without your bag slipping away from you.

Stitch Features of the Large Crochet Project Bag

You will learn and use three different types of stitch patterns that are featured on this Purple Passion Project Purse. The great thing is, I will break up the pattern such that you will be working on one stitch pattern at a time.

First, you’ll make the rectangular bottom of the purse which features the thermal stitch to provide a great amount of stability.

Next, you will work on the main body of the bag which has a beautiful texture due to the Tri Square stitch pattern.

And lastly, you’ll be finishing the bag using the Linked Treble Crochet stitch on the edge and handle of the bag. Finally, we are adding some buttons and then show off our beautiful crochet project bags to everyone.

Adding the buttons to the crochet bag

Slip the handle over to the other side of the bag and align it evenly. That will help you see where to add the buttons. Now using some of the leftover yarn from the Caron Big Cake, sew on the buttons in the correct spots.
