Easily Customize the Size of Your Crochet Square Blanket
Whether you're interested in making a crochet square baby blanket or a larger size for your couch or bed, this pattern is super easy to customize. You'll basically get the main square started and then continue to work in simple rounds until the blanket is the size you'd like.
In the pattern below, I've included instructions for how to make a baby sized blanket using four total skeins of yarn, or a larger couch throw using eight total skeins. Omit the tassels on either size and you'll have more yarn to work a few extra rounds.

• This pattern will look fantastic in a variety of colors. To achieve the best contrast amongst the colors, choose two light shades and two dark shades and alternate them in your square.

MAIN BLANKET
Notes:
• Pattern is worked in turned rounds, which means you will sl st to join at the end of each round and then turn your work to begin the next round.
• Each round will use all four colors. Color changes will take place after ch-1 at corners. To switch colors, simply begin next dc with new color by yarning over with new color and completing dc with same color. See photo above for step-by-step instructions.
• See photo below for tips on increasing at each corner.
• Ch-3 at beginning of round counts as first dc. Complete these chs fairly tightly so as to best disguise them within overall project.
With COLOR A:
Foundation Round: Ch 5, sl st to first ch to join. Ring formed.
Round 1 (RS):
With COLOR A: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, ch 1,
With COLOR B: *3 dc in ring, ch 1,**
With COLOR C: Rep from * to **,

To Make Baby Blanket Size (using 4 total skeins of yarn):
Rep Rounds 2 and 3 until you have a total of 27 rounds, ending with a RS round (Round 3). Each round should increase by 4 sts in each color and 16 sts total.
If tassels aren’t desired, feel free to continue working rounds until yarn is gone to increase blanket size.
To Make Throw Blanket Size (using 8 total skeins of yarn):
Rep Rounds 2 and 3 until you have a total of 37 rounds, ending with a RS round (Round 3). Each round should increase by 4 sts in each color and 16 sts total.
If tassels aren’t desired, feel free to continue working rounds until yarn is gone to increase blanket size.
ADDING TASSELS
Please do not add tassels to a baby blanket if the child is under three-years-old and still putting things in their mouth.
See video tutorial above for a visual tutorial. Using yarn color to match corner the tassel will be attached to and a cardboard tube cut to 6.25” (or a tassel maker), wrap yarn approximately 65 times around tube lengthwise. Insert a 10” piece of yarn underneath the wrapped yarn on one end of the tube. Tie a few secure knots, but do not trim these pieces. Use scissors to cut the wrapped yarn at the other end of the tube.
Fold the resulting strands of yarn in half and wrap a second 10” piece of yarn around the top of the strands to create a small sphere of yarn. Insert hook through bottom of tassel to grab these tails and hide them in the tassel.
Use the tails from the first 10” piece of yarn to tie the tassel to corner of blanket and weave in ends. Repeat three more times for additional corners. (See the 9:20 point in this video tutorial for a quick visual lesson.)
